How is a Breast Lift Performed?

A breast lift, or mastopexy surgery, is performed by making an incision around the areola and down the underside of the breast.
Excess fat, tissue, and skin are then removed.
The remaining tissue is tightened and the nipples are repositioned higher on the breast.
Depending on the patient’s individual condition, a limited-scar breast lift may be performed.
This technique involves using special methods to reduce the chances of unsightly scars or keloids.
Sometimes, a breast lift is combined with a breast augmentation to obtain the best and most desired results.
What Can I Expect Following Breast Surgery?

A dressing is placed over the incisions and the breasts are wrapped in a supportive elastic bandage or special surgical bra.
A small drainage tube may be placed in each breast for several days to drain blood and fluid.
Buried, dissolvable stitches are typically used that will not require removal.
This technique also results in better scars and reduces discomfort at follow-up visits.
Breast pain in the first several days after surgery may be relieved with medication.
Swelling and bruising for several weeks after the surgery is normal.
Wearing the surgical bra 24 hours a day will help to reduce swelling during the healing process.
After two to three weeks, patients can resume their normal activities.
Strenuous exercise or heavy lifting, however, should be avoided for three to four weeks or more.
In the meantime,

seek out the optimal sports bra for your activity and breast size.
